How to look after your skin this summer
With the heatwave that’s hit the UK this week, we can see that summer is definitely on it’s way. Before going out into the sunshine all day, make sure you are caring for your skin properly by following these simple tips.
1. SPF, SPF, SPF
This rule should really go without saying nowadays. Most of your skincare products will contain SPF – think moisturiser, BB cream, foundation…
As well as using products that contain SPF, it’s also a great idea to apply sun cream to your face when going out in the sun. You should make sure to be applying a generous amount every 1-2 hours and every time you get out of the pool.
SPF is super important for keeping your skin healthy. It prevents your skin from sun damage such as burning and premature signs of aging.
2. Exfoliate
Exfoliating helps to rid your body of dead skin build up. This is especially important in the summer as it helps to scrub off the damaged skin cells from the sun. It also leaves your skin feeling soft and looking bright – so it’s a win win. Depending on skin type, it’s recommended that you exfoliate 1-3 times a week.
3. Lips & Scalp
When going out for a day in the sun, it can be very easy to forget to protect these parts of your body. Scalp and lip burn are both very painful, so make sure you remember to protect them with appropriate creams and balms – most lip balms will contain SPF, and a normal spray sun cream works wonders for the scalp – just remember to keep reapplying.
4. Drink lots of water!
The heat can give you sunstroke and make you dehydrated. Dehydration is bad for you full stop, but it’s especially bad for your skin. Keep your skin looking plump, glowy and healthy by making sure you drink at least 2 litres of water per day.
